In the latest episode of Meet Me at Reception, Marco Capaldo (co-founder and creative director of 16Arlington) and his friend Hans Ulrich Obrist (artistic director of Serpentine Galleries), meet director of Frieze No.9 Cork Street, Selvi May Akyildiz.

The three talk about Capaldo’s curation of the Almine Rech group exhibition ‘Memories of the Future’ at Frieze No.9 Cork Street, and answer important questions like: ‘Who’s the best-dressed artist?’ and ‘London or Paris?’ Plus, the importance of rain at exhibitions and fashion shows, serendipity and astrological destiny. Capaldo also talks about the very personal circumstances that led to an Andy Warhol polaroid being included in the show.

This is the fourth in a series of videos from Frieze’s gallery, No.9 Cork Street, where cultural personalities are welcome to come and have a chat at reception (and sign the all-important guest book).

Almine Rech: ‘Memories of the Future’

‘Memories of the Future’ features 14 visionary artists responding to curator Marco Capaldo’s prompt that ‘memories are not immutable experiences existing only in our past, but ever-evolving experiences that continuously shape our future’. Highlights include paintings by Rhea Dillon, Remi Ajani and George Rouy; sculptures by Jesse Pollock and Sandra Poulson; photographs by Francesca Woodman; and an installation of John Giorno’s seminal DIAL-A-POEM ‘free poetry service’, first shown at MoMA in 1970.

‘Memories of the Future’ runs 4 – 19 October 2024.
