Hamza Walker, director of LAXART, has selected five eminent jazz musicians to perform during Frieze Music presented with BMW
For the inaugural presentation of Frieze Los Angeles, Frieze Music has partnered with BMW to present Robert Glasper with Chris Dave, Derrick Hodge, Ambrose Akinmusire and DJ Jahi Sundance. Taking place at NeueHouse Hollywood on Saturday, February 16, this evening is curated by Hamza Walker, director of LAXART, in collaboration with Blue Note Records.
Robert Glasper is a three-time GRAMMY Award and one-time EMMY Award winning pianist, composer and producer, whose groundbreaking Black Radio albums and collaborations from August Greene to R+R=NOW encompass all reaches of contemporary black music. Robert is joined by drummer Chris Dave who has played for everyone from Adele to Bieber and Dolly to D’Angelo and was named one of the top 100 drummers of all time by Rolling Stone. Derrick Hodge, two-time Grammy Award winner who has worked extensively across jazz, cinematic, and R&B genres, joins on bass. Ambrose Akinmusire will bring his unorthodox approach to sound and composition through his highly-acclaimed trumpeting. The jazz quartet will be followed by veteran DJ Jahi Sundance, known for his inspired selections from varied genres and bold soundscapes for audiences from clubs to concert halls.
This evening event is presented in association with NeueHouse.
