About the Work
steadfast… is part of a series of sculptures representing a scrotum flower, a symbol for the union of energy of the feminine and masculine. The sculpture’s hybrid form, with its larger-than-life chicken feet, chunky legs and lipstick, symbolizes a guardian.
About the Artist
Theresa Chromati (b. 1992, Baltimore, USA; lives and works in Brooklyn, USA) has a multi-disciplinary practice, pursuing a fluid relationship between painting and design. Her work expands the traditional boundaries of painting through fragmented forms of desire and an abstracted figuration. The artist also explores elements of support depicted in her relationship to ‘scrotum flowers’, the most recurrent symbol in her iconography.
Chromati’s recent group exhibitions include those at at the Pérez Art Museum Miami; Baltimore Museum of Art; Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, New York; Xiao Museum of Contemporary Art, Rizhao; ‘A Maze Zanine, Amaze Zaning, A- Mezzaning, Meza-9’, David Zwirner and Performance Space New York; the VII Moscow International Biennale for Young Art; and ‘The Extreme Present’ co-organized by Jeffrey Deitch and Gagosian.
Her works belong to the collections of Pérez Art Museum Miami; Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, Durham; Rubell Family Collection, Miami; Baltimore Museum of Art; Burger Collection, Hong Kong; Xiao Museum of Contemporary Art; Pizzuti Collection of the Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus; The Komal Shah and Gaurav Garg Collection, Atherton; and The Dean Collection, New York. She recently closed ‘Rehearsal of Joy’, her first solo show in an European institution.
