Make Room is participating Smoke at Frieze London 2024 with a presentation of new works by artists Yeni Mao and Yuri Yuan. Through their distinct practices, both artists bring their unique perspectives to the exhibition, creating a dialogue between sculpture and painting that resonates with themes of solitude and grief, with a subtext of destruction.
About Yeni Mao
Yeni Mao (b. 1971, Canada) is a sculptor based in Mexico City. He received his BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Mao’s sculptures possess a captivating narrative undertone, often drawing from the Canadian-Chinese artist’s transnational background.
About Yuri Yuan
Yuri Yuan (b. 1996, Harbin, China) takes a surrealistic approach in her paintings to delve into profound realms of longing and loss. Through visual symbolism, metaphors and elements of magical realism, she creates exterior landscapes that mirror the interior psychological states of herself and her audience.
Yeni Mao and Yuri Yuan are presented by Make Room at Frieze London 2024.
