Frieze has shared a preview of the upcoming edition of Frieze New York, which runs May 7 – 11 this year, once again at The Shed. The fair will bring together a dynamic cross-section of the world’s premier contemporary art galleries, featuring more than 65 participants from more than 25 countries, and presenting work from many of the most sought-after names in contemporary art.
‘Each year, Frieze New York brings together art galleries, artists, and collectors from around the world,’ said Christine Messineo, Frieze’s director of Americas. ‘Dynamic voices that shape today’s art world engage with the best and the brightest in New York City’s rich cultural landscape. The result is an experience that deepens one’s understanding and enjoyment of contemporary art.’
Kristell Chadé, Frieze’s executive director of fairs, added: ‘We are excited to welcome several new participants to Frieze New York, from established programmes to the new galleries joining our Focus section. Their inclusion underscores the fair’s role in showcasing the leading edge of the contemporary art world while providing an essential platform for emerging voices.’

Among the participating galleries are A Gentil Carioca, Carlos/Ishikawa, Esther Schipper, Emalin, Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel, Gallery Hyundai, Goodman Gallery, Kukje Gallery, kurimanzutto, Victoria Miro, The Modern Institute, mor charpentier, Stevenson, Thaddaeus Ropac, Mendes Wood DM and White Cube.
These leading international galleries will stand alongside key figures from New York’s vibrant art scene. Showcasing the breadth and depth of the city’s creative landscape, the fair will welcome Miguel Abreu Gallery, Canada, Chapter NY, James Cohan, Tanya Bonakdar, Gagosian, Alexander Gray Associates, Hauser & Wirth, Casey Kaplan, Karma, Anton Kern, Andrew Kreps Gallery, Ortuzar, Pace Gallery, and David Zwirner. These will be joined by spaces from across the US including Gray, François Ghebaly, Night Gallery and Matthew Brown.

Focus, A Platform for Young Galleries
Frieze’s celebrated section for young galleries features 12 exhibitors each showing solo presentations by emerging or under-appreciated artists. Overseen for a second year by curator and writer Lumi Tan, the section sees an increased international presence while maintaining a spotlight on New York’s vibrant young spaces. Seven new galleries – Champ Lacombe, G Gallery, King’s Leap, Management, Public, Voloshyn Gallery, Yeo Workshop – join Central Galeria, Company Gallery, Gordon Robichaux, Madragoa and Mitre Galeria.
Highlights include a comprehensive presentation of artist and curator Jenni Crain, who died suddenly from complications from Covid-19 at the age of 30, at Gordon Robichaux, three choose-your-adventure interactive video works centering Black trans experience by Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley at Public, and a significant installation created from antique textiles by Balinese artist Citra Sasmita at Yeo Workshop, who reclaims the epics depicted in traditional Indonesian Kamasa painting as acts of female agency.

Tan said: ‘I’m particularly thrilled that this year's Focus section is able to support an increased international presence. The ambitious presentations across the section demonstrate the imperative role of artists in complicating neatly packaged narratives around the individual and society, taking on subjects such as the effects of extractive commercial and military industries, the feminist repositioning of storytelling traditions, and the new imaginaries that result from the translation of digital engagements into physical encounters.’
Focus is sponsored by Stone Island. The brand’s subsidy of the section, in addition to Frieze’s existing support, enables galleries to participate in the fair and ensures that Focus remains a place to discover new talent.
