FOS, ‘Permission to fall’, 2024

FOS, Permission to fall, 2024

Performance. Presented by NILS STÆRK

About the Work

Permission to fall is a performance that triggers an event evocative of sculpture that occurs through unexpected encounters. For the first time in the history of Frieze Sculpture, an artist has been commissioned to create a performance work. Connected to the conception and experience of sculpture, Permission to fall will take place at the weekend, in the afternoons at unspecified times. The non-descriptive nature of this announcement is intended to blur the boundaries between routine, everyday acts, events and art encounters.

About the Artist

FOS (Thomas Poulsen, b. 1971, Copenhagen; lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark and Venice, Italy) is interested in how art can function as an alternative to the systems that normally regulate behaviour within our civil societies. His practice encompasses, in the broadest sense, sculpture, installation, music, architecture and design, to explore how the language of objects and space define us as social beings. FOS connects art, design and architecture in a hybrid form, which he calls ‘social design’.

Recent and upcoming exhibitions include solo shows at Museo Anahuacalli, Mexico City (2024); Etage projects, Copenhagen (2023) and Le Bicolore, Paris (2021); group shows at Centre of Contemporary Art, Copenhagen (2024); Centre of Contemporary Art, Copenhagen (2024); and ARoS Aarhus Art Museum (2022). His work is in the public collections of SMK – National Gallery of Denmark, Copenhagen; ARKEN Museum of Contemporary Art, Ishøj; Ny Carlsbergfondet, Copenhagen; ARoS Aarhus Art Museum; Museo Tamayo, Mexico City.

Frieze Sculpture is in The Regent’s Park, 18 September – 27 October 2024. No booking required, it is free and accessible to all.
